Consumer behavior has been defined by the American Marketing Association as "the dynamic interaction of cognition, behavior, and environmental events by which human beings conduct the exchange aspects of their lives" (Bennett, 1988, 40). Consumer psychology has been examined to ascertain how consumers make choices and what attracts their attention in the marketplace.
Information processing on the part of the consumer should be considered in terms of motivation, in terms of the factors that get people to behave in a certain way. There are different formulations that have been offered to explain human behavior, and one of the more significant is that offered by Maslow.
